We take pride in working closely with our customers to understand their unique needs and create innovative, individualized solutions that deliver joy to their customers.

A family-founded company started over 40 years ago, we are backed by the investment company Axel Johnson Inc (AJI). With their investment and support, we are well-positioned to foster growth and explore new opportunities.

Our customers, blue-chip international brands and mid-sized producers alike, are why we exist. Our teams of innovators, communicators, and managers are the people who meet their needs, build trust, and work to exceed their expectations.

Who we need

Reporting to the Product Change Manager, we are looking for a Product Change Specialist, Food and Ingredients. You will lead the system implementation of all products, packaging, and processing, including creation and changes for over 600 active SKUs. You will perform relevant risk assessment of changes to ingredients, formulations, packaging, and more. Working in collaboration with Product Developers, Regulatory, Operations, QA, Sales, and Commercial teams, you will ensure products meet performance, safety, quality and customer expectations for all changes, including new product commercialization.

This existing position is a full-time permanent role, based five days a week onsite at our Brampton manufacturing plant.

What’s in it for you

Breadth and depth. You will work across 600+ active SKUs spanning multiple food categories, managing changes ranging from routine updates to time-sensitive requests. Every product, formulation, or packaging change passes through your hands, giving you deep exposure to the full product lifecycle, from system setup to risk assessment and execution.

Impact. You will gain unparalleled insight into cross-functional processes across Product Development, Regulatory, Operations, QA, Sales, and Commercial teams, enabling you to see the impact of your work on both internal operations and customer outcomes.

Industry knowledge. Skjodt-Barrett is the partner of choice for many of the continent’s most influential food brands, as well as hundreds of ingredients and dozens of custom food packaging customers. You will gain opportunities to learn more about each category, support product changes and potentially work on special projects.

Career growth. You will be supported from day one with access to an in depth onboarding and training program, peer support, and coaching and guidance from your manager. This opportunity exists as the previous incumbent was promoted within the department as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting and developing our people. Joining us now is a chance to expand your career opportunities in other areas of product development, including innovation and R&D.

What you will be doing

  • Lead product setup and change execution in ERP. You will manage the full Product Details setup in ERP, including ingredients, packaging, work instructions, and specifications, ensuring all regulatory information is accurate and verified through aligned product briefs. You will execute all pre-verified product, packaging, and process changes through the current change process, adhering to timelines and communicating any challenges or constraints that may arise.
  • Assess risk and maintain compliance. You will perform risk assessments of product and ingredient changes from a food safety perspective, including monitoring Heavy Metal limits, leveraging all available tools to ensure standards and limits are consistently met across all categories. You will create and maintain assessment documentation to support all changes, ensuring alignment with existing regulations and quality requirements.
  • Support trials and product updates. You will provide trial support by creating timely trial BOMs, work instructions, and relevant system changes to meet customer requirements. You will maintain all existing formulations in the system, ensuring all approved and active versions are accurate, consistent, and valid.
  • Contribute to ongoing programs and continuous improvement. You will support ongoing Heavy Metal program reviews and other quality initiatives, modelling a commitment to Skjodt-Barrett’s values, quality standards, and innovation in all development and production activities. You may also be asked to perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the direct manager.

You bring

  • The industry experience. You have a BSc in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related technical field. You have experience in food product development with a clear understanding of HACCP, GMPs, and food safety standards. Ideally, you have experience with processes for scaling up from bench to plant in a high-speed manufacturing environment and are familiar with ERP systems and product change management processes.
  • The analytical skills. You bring ownership, follow-through, and focus to everything you do. You are solution-oriented, highly detail-oriented, and can identify gaps and issues in documentation, BOMs, and regulatory compliance. You are comfortable performing risk assessments on ingredients, packaging, and product changes, including food safety and heavy metal considerations.
  • The project management skills. You thrive in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment and can manage multiple product changes simultaneously, tracking progress to ensure deadlines are met. You have a continuous improvement mindset and can identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve documentation, and support trials and scale-up activities.
  • The interpersonal. You have professional communication skills and can build trusting working relationships. You have the confidence to question choices and make recommendations while respecting diverse opinions.
