Who we need

We are looking for a dedicated Environmental Health and Safety Manager to join our team and help us build our safety culture and optimize our safety standards. We are committed to ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all our employees. You will take ownership of ensuring we meet and exceed the highest standards for our industry. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all health and safety programs at our manufacturing plant. You will ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and continuously seek ways to improve our safety protocols.

This is an onsite position based in our plant in Lebanon Indiana.

What's in it for you

Exposure and influence. You will play a key role in maintaining our position as a leading manufacturer of complex food ingredients and products for globally recognized brands. At Skjodt- Barrett Foods, we value the drive to bring your ideas to life and the resilience to be accountable for your actions. You will create and implement standards, processes, and training; build internal and external relationships; and ensure employee engagement - across both sites.

Impact. You will be a vital part of our “One Plant” initiative, which aligns the operations of our plants in Indiana and Ontario. You will have the opportunity to put your mark on health and safety, change management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Career development. You will work with a team that prioritizes an innovative and collaborative environment, valuing diversity of thought and engaging in healthy debates to reach mutually satisfactory conclusions. Whether you want to increase your influence and accountabilities in this role or move up to another area of plant operations, you will be supported in your professional growth.

What you will do:

  • Share knowledge. You will champion a culture of health and safety. You will provide training and guidance to employees on safety standards and practices. You will perform safety orientations for all employees, contractors, and visitors. In addition, you will coordinate emergency response plans and drills.
  • Develop processes and policies. You will maintain and update Health and Safety policies, programs, and reports as needed. You will identify gaps in the process and introduce solutions, gaining traction through education. You will collaborate with management to create safety improvement plans.
  • Be an expert. You will provide technical expertise in specialized health, safety and environmental areas such as industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness and response, incident investigation, pollution prevention and control, waste management, and chemical management.
  • Ensure compliance. You will support the Plant Managers and Leadership, ensuring that all applicable EHS legislation, codes and standards are satisfied. You will conduct safety and environmental audits and inspections and maintain records.
  • Respond to Incidents. You will routinely monitor production to promote safe working conditions and maintain and update Safety Data Sheets and related material. You will investigate and report all accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Continuous learning. You will pursue the most up-to-date health and safety information, processes, and practices to stay at the top of the industry standards and regulations.
  • Lead change management. You will implement change management strategies and plans that drive faster adoption of improvements and best practices that increase quality and efficiency. You will work closely with the plant manager, engineers, production manager, HRBP, controller, and planner to achieve site objectives relating to health and environmental safety.

What you bring to the role:

  • The experience. You have worked in an industrial environment (e.g., manufacturing, production plant, etc.) with high-speed machinery. You have proven success engaging plant floor staff with health, safety and environmental programs you have developed and implemented. You can identify gaps and areas for increased efficiency and introduce process changes and best practices, ensuring adoption and application.
  • The knowledge-sharing approach. You are a subject matter expert in health and safety and have experience building and nurturing a culture of trust, safety, and ownership through knowledge sharing and staff empowerment. You have in-depth knowledge of applicable Environmental, Health, and Safety legislation, codes, and standards.
  • The drive. You are invested in achieving long-running no-incident records. You can inspire those around you to share your commitment to health and safety and overcoming obstacles in a time-sensitive environment. You hold yourself and those you work with to high standards of accountability.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have professional and adaptable verbal and written communication skills. You can build trust and influence without authority. You can work alongside managers and plant floor staff to understand the production floor deeply.
