A family-founded company started over 40 years ago, we are backed by the investment company Axel Johnson Inc (AJI). With their investment and support, we are well-positioned to foster growth and explore new opportunities.

Our customers, blue-chip international brands and mid-sized producers alike, are why we exist. Our teams of innovators, communicators, and managers are the people who meet their needs, build trust, and exceed their expectations.

Who we need

Reporting to the Interim Director of R&D, we are hiring a Manager of Regulatory and Product Change to join us on a 12-month maternity leave contract. This role is being hired as part of a planned leadership transition within the R&D team, as the current Manager of Regulatory and Product Change steps into the Interim Director of R&D position during a maternity leave coverage period.

As the new Manager of Regulatory and Product Change you will support product innovation, commercialization and provide leadership in regulatory compliance, and product change management across our business. You will lead a team of four and work closely with Product Development, Quality, Operations, Procurement, Sales, and Commercial teams to ensure our products meet evolving customer expectations, food safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

This is an existing hybrid role based in Brampton, Ontario, requiring a minimum of 3 days onsite per week.

What's in it for you

Impact. You will play a critical role in leading the regulatory, and product change processes and support food safety behind innovative food products and ingredients within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Your expertise will directly influence commercialization timelines, regulatory compliance, product integrity, food safety standards, and the successful delivery of products that meet both customer and market expectations.

Innovation and ownership. Sitting within R&D offers a unique opportunity to work closer to product innovation, customer collaboration, and commercialization activities. You will help oversee and improve the regulatory and product change processes supporting new ingredients, product launches, reformulations, packaging updates, and customer-driven changes. As the business continues to evolve, you will have the opportunity to bring fresh ideas, identify efficiencies, strengthen collaboration across teams, and help shape how Regulatory and Product Change functions operate moving forward.

Exposure and development. You will gain exposure to a wide range of product categories, ingredients, customers, and regulatory requirements across North America, with occasional exposure to international markets such as the EU and Australia depending on customer needs. You will work alongside experienced Product Development, Quality, Operations, Procurement, and Commercial teams in an environment that values collaboration, practical problem-solving, continuous improvement, and innovation.

What you will do:

  • Lead regulatory and product change activities. You will oversee regulatory requirements and product change processes supporting new product development, commercialization, ingredient changes, packaging updates, and customer-driven initiatives. You will help ensure products meet regulatory, safety, quality, and customer expectations while supporting the successful launch and maintenance of products across the business.
  • Support regulatory compliance and risk assessment. You will lead and support regulatory reviews, food safety assessments, and risk evaluations related to product and ingredient changes. This includes supporting heavy metals compliance programs, allergen considerations, ingredient reviews, customer claims, and emerging regulatory requirements across North American markets, with occasional exposure to international requirements depending on customer needs.
  • Drive process improvement and operational efficiency. You will identify opportunities to improve Regulatory and Product Change processes, strengthen cross-functional collaboration, and increase efficiency within a lean and evolving environment. You will help streamline workflows, improve communication across teams, and support the ongoing evolution of product change and regulatory management practices.
  • Partner across teams. You will collaborate closely with Product Development, Quality, Operations, Procurement, Sales, Commercial, and Manufacturing teams to support commercialization activities, resolve regulatory questions, manage change processes, and mitigate potential risks. You will build strong working relationships across teams and help ensure alignment throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Oversee product and regulatory data integrity. You will support the accurate setup and maintenance of product, ingredient, packaging, and specification information within ERP systems. You will help ensure product details, regulatory requirements, and change documentation are properly verified, maintained, and aligned with approved product briefs and commercialization processes.
  • Support innovation and commercialization. You will contribute to the development and launch of innovative food products and ingredients by supporting regulatory guidance throughout the commercialization process. You will help teams navigate evolving customer requirements, ingredient considerations, product claims, and regulatory expectations while balancing speed, compliance, and operational realities.
  • Lead and support the team. You will provide leadership, coaching, and day-to-day support to a team of Regulatory and Product Change professionals. You will foster collaboration, adaptability, accountability, and continuous learning while helping the team navigate changing priorities and evolving business needs.
  • Ensure compliance and quality standards. You will support compliance with food safety standards, GMP requirements, HACCP programs, customer requirements, and internal quality processes. You will contribute to an environment focused on product integrity, accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

What you bring to the role:

  • The experience. You have experience working within the food manufacturing industry supporting Regulatory, Food Safety, Quality, Product Change, or Product Development functions. You understand the realities of fast-paced manufacturing environments and have supported commercialization, product changes, ingredient reviews, or regulatory compliance activities within complex operational settings. Experience within highly regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals would also be considered valuable.
  • The technical expertise. You bring strong knowledge of North American food regulations, food safety standards, HACCP, GMPs, allergen management, ingredient compliance, and regulatory risk assessment processes. Experience supporting heavy metals compliance, customer claims, product specifications, and emerging regulatory requirements is considered a strong asset. You are comfortable navigating regulatory requirements, researching unfamiliar regulations, and applying practical, risk-based decision-making in evolving environments.
  • The operational and systems understanding. You understand how regulatory requirements connect to product development, commercialization, manufacturing, and customer expectations. You have experience supporting product changes from concept through implementation and are comfortable working with ERP systems such as D365 or SAP, product specifications, formulation documentation, and change management processes while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy and data integrity.
  • The leadership approach. You are a collaborative and adaptable leader who knows how to build trust across highly cross-functional teams. You can work effectively with stakeholders across Product Development, Quality, Operations, Procurement, Sales, and Commercial teams while supporting and coaching team members with varying levels of experience and tenure. You foster accountability, practical problem-solving, and partnership while helping teams navigate evolving priorities and operational pressures.
  • The drive. You are energized by solving complex regulatory and operational challenges within a fast-paced and evolving manufacturing environment. You enjoy identifying opportunities to improve processes, create efficiencies, strengthen collaboration, and support continuous improvement initiatives. You are adaptable, hands-on, and comfortable balancing multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of quality, responsiveness, and attention to detail.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have strong verbal and written communication skills and can translate technical or regulatory information clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences. You build relationships quickly, collaborate effectively across teams, and know how to influence and support stakeholders through a calm, practical, and solutions-focused approach.
